Back in the early 2000s, I had a denim carryall bag that I used for *everything*. While it may not have been the most fashionable piece, it seemed to magically stretch to fit whatever I wanted to hold, and held up to years of daily use before I quite literally wore it to shreds. To this day, I’ve never found a bag that was quite so perfect.
When I saw that Debbie Bliss had a line of denim-inspired cotton yarn, I knew immediately that this was my chance to recapture the feeling of the bag that got away. With two yarns held together, the resulting garter fabric is a wonderful shade of well-worn denim. And while designing the pattern, I took the opportunity to go for a slightly more modern update, including a microfibre shoulder strap for increased strength. Best of all, the mitered square design is such a quick knit that you won’t miss out on any summer adventures for the sake of making it.
In the end, it really doesn’t look anything like my beloved old bag—it’s actually even better. It’s stretchy, durable, and perfectly casual while still being trendy. Since the second I wove in the last yarn tail, this bag has been packed full of my summer essentials and hasn’t left my side.
