This basket every bit as functional as it is cute, but it also gave me the perfect excuse to rediscover how much I enjoy working with plant fibre. I went looking for an environmentally-friendly yarn, and the Fibra Natura: Good Earth seemed like the natural choice. The cotton/linen blend is sturdy enough for a basket, but soft enough to be a joy to knit with. And the neutral shade with subtle flecks of pink was just begging to to be knit into home decor.
However, once my hand brushed over the unbelievably smooshy Universal Cotton Supreme, there was no way I was letting it go. So now, the basket has a contrast colour lining! Alternatively, the beautiful coral skein could be used for a second basket—which could come in handy if your yarn stash is as unruly as mine.
Since May tends to be a month of cleaning and/or gardening, not to mention how the change in weather can affect those of us with chronic pain, I am extremely happy to have custom heating pads for knitters! These little bean bags can be popped in the microwave for 45 seconds, or put in the freezer for an hour, and can be used to relieve those sore wrists we all know so well.
