By the time January rolls around, I’m pretty well over cute winter fashion and just want to be as warm as possible. Picture a toddler dressing themselves and putting on all their favourite clothes at the same time, but an adult with all her knitwear.
So instead of wearing 3 fingering weight hats, I’m streamlining my wardrobe with some warmer accessories! The yarn this month is a pair of absolutely drool-worthy skeins of ultra-fine merino, baby alpaca, yak, and mulberry silk. The fibres have blend together for unbelievable softness, sheen, and warmth, and were hand-dyed by the wonderful Canadian dyer Illimani Yarn.
The hat pattern is worked by alternating colours every stitch, which creates a layer of floats on the inside for additional protection against the cold (without additional bulk). And to top of your toque to perfection is a perfectly fluffy, locally-made faux-fur pompom.
