One of my New Years resolutions is to push myself to break out of my comfort zone in all aspects of my life. For example, my personal yarn stash is full of all my tried-and-true favourites with a lot of of the same colour tones and fibre blends (I’m always a sucker for a good 80/20 sock yarn!).
So to branch out a bit this month, I’ve put together this fabulous mix of different colours, weights, and fibre contents. The gold yarn is a luxurious 100% pure baby llama, contrasted with the rich black 100% merino dk. And to blend them together is a soft grey mohair/silk lace weight, which adds an extra sheen and warmth.
Topped off with a locally-sourced handmade faux fur pompom, the resulting colour block toque is the warmest, and most touchably soft winter accessory I own. So while I used to be nervous about mixing different types of wool in one project, I have to say that my goal to explore the wider world of fibre options is off to an excellent start.
