One of my New Years resolutions is to push myself to break out of my comfort zone in all aspects of my life. For example, my personal yarn stash is full of all my tried-and-true favourites with a lot of of the same colour tones and fibre blends (I’m always a sucker for a good 80/20 sock yarn!).
So to branch out a bit this month, I decided to play with a fabulous mix of different fibres from Ancient Arts. This stunning wool/mohair/silk worsted weight blend was hand-dyed to perfection with environmentally-friendly dyes in Calgary, Alberta.
It did not disappoint. The more I knit, the softer it became. The pattern is a collaboration with fellow Canadian designer Indecisive Crafter, and was specifically designed to accentuate the yarn’s best qualities: the sleek double brim and deceptively simple pattern of the hat shows off the faceted nature of the blue/grey tones, while leaving the lovely mohair halo room to breathe. Topped off with a locally-made faux fur pompom, this hat has become a trendy staple in my cold-weather wardrobe, and I never want to leave home without it.
